Overheard at the Howling Hog
Widow Brindle's report to the reeve: her carrot bed dug up, and one carrot gone that she says was as big as a sheepdog. It trotted off on four knotted roots, and it snapped at the reeve when he grabbed for it. The mushroom folk say it's theirs. The rest of her carrots have started twitching.
Use it as
- A druid or ranger's companion that eats its own weight in compost
- A garden pest the village hires the party to catch
- One of a pack of root hounds running with the mushroom folk
DM tip
Give it a burrow speed in soft soil. It ducks under, then pops up a round later right next to whoever wasn't watching the garden.
