From a letter left behind the bar: hire the half-elf with the owl. It flies ahead every night and has spotted every ambush before we reached it. She'll heal you for free and swing that mace for a fee. She's looking for work again since we came home two short. She won't say what happened.
DM tip
Let the owl scout. Once a session, her player can send it ahead, and you describe one thing waiting in the next room.
